How long can the new coronavirus live?

Up to 3 hours in the aerosol 4 hours on the copper surface

Compared with SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) virus, how stable is the new coronavirus in the environment? On March 10, local time, the medical preprint platform medRxiv published a research report on the survival stability of new coronaviruses in aerosols and on different surfaces, entitled "Aerosol and surface stability of HCoV-19 (SARS-CoV- 2) compared to SARS-CoV-1 ".

The research team found that

The new coronavirus survives up to 3 hours in air aerosols, with a median half-life of 2.7 hours; it can survive 24 hours on paper materials, up to 4 hours on copper surfaces, and 2-3 days on plastic and stainless steel surfaces.

The researchers said that the new coronavirus and SARS coronavirus existed in the environment for a similar period of time, and that the new coronavirus has been active on aerosols and objects for a longer period of time, which may be related to nosocomial infections and super-transmission events, and thus Tip: It is very important to clean and disinfect various solid surfaces.

"Aerosol" refers to particles suspended in the gas, such as small droplets in the air, in the "New Coronavirus Infected Pneumonia Diagnosis and Treatment Program (Trial Fifth Edition)" issued by the National Health Commission of China, for the virus The description of the transmission route newly added that ¡°the transmission routes of aerosol and digestive tract are yet to be clarified¡±. However, many experts also said that the current transmission method of the new coronavirus is still based on close-range respiratory droplet transmission and contact transmission.
